Houston now has the largest community of Vietnamese in the United States outside the state of California, and the Vietnamese population in other Texas cities is also growing. One key to keeping the people in these communities informed and in touch with the community at large is the radio station called Radio Saigon-Houston. As VOA’s Greg Flakus reports from Houston, the broadcasts provide a link to Vietnam as well. Originally published at - http://www.voanews.com/a/3543748.html

On Twitter: @AkiemBailum This isn't Radio One...is it? Radio One specializes in Urban targeted formats. In fact, Radio One is Arbitron rated #2 and #3 in Houston with KBXX Mainstream Urban 97.9 The Box and KMJQ Majic 102.1. Only Clear Channel's KODA-FM AC "Sunny 99.1" has higher numbers and cume. They also have an Urban Gospel station on 92.1 called "Praise". It is the flagship of the Yolanda Adams Morning Show that is syndied on the other "Praise" outlets in Atlanta and Philadelphia among others. Radio One must not be giving much Praise to the Christian station and believes 92.1 has spent enough time in church. This is why starting November 17th, Praise 92.1 becomes All-News outlet "News 92". This one has a chance to be a huge success or a huge flop. The station will be Houston...

One of the most distinguishing factors about the Houston-Galveston radio market has been the number of high-powered FMs. Most of the FM signals operate above 90,000 watts. These stations were exempt from the early sixties FCC power restrictions on FM since the stations were in place broadcasting above 50kw prior to the ruling. The earliest AM radio licensees in Houston in the early twenties included The Houston Chronicle's WFAL, Alfred Daniel's WCAK, Will Horwitz Jr.'s WEAY, Hurlburt Still Electrical Company's WEV and QRV Radio's WGAB. The dial had completely changed by the early forties in which some of the key stations were KTRH (740), KPRC (950) and KXYZ (1470). One of the most legendary stations in Houston radio history has been KPFT, a public station of the Pacifica Radio Network....
